From Russia with Club 30

From Russia with Club 30 is another set full of deep house and nu disco goodies. Like parents feel about their children, it's hard for me to pick favorites. Just kidding, everyone parent has a favorite child (in your family it's probably you), and I have my favorite tracks of Volume 30.

  • There's something about the deep male vocals in Fritz & Paul Kalkbrenner's "Sky and Sand" that makes me hit play over and over again. I tried to enhance the haunting quality by overlaying it against the mechanical techie sounds of FRwC favorite Gui Boratto's "Xilo".
  • After I got out of trance, I never thought I'd listen to Sasha again, but his transition to a deeper, funkier sound has me on the lookout for his tracks. His remix of Hot Chip's "Flutes" is a great example of this direction.
  • Dusky's "Careless" isn't my absolute favorite, but I've got to give them props for hitting #1 on Beatport, pretty rare for a deep house jam.
  • I want to give credit to Grass Is Greener aka SR Serge, founder and resident of the recently shutdown Sullivan Room, for his intoxicating jam "Start Again". I have many fond memories of nights spent at Sully, one of the last remaining bastions of the Manhattan underground scene. I thank Serge, Rob Keith, and the rest of the Sullivan Room team for the good times. Though I was very sad to see it go, I am excited to see what Serge can do with even more of his attention dedicated to producing.

Those are some of my favorites, but I love all the tracks in this set. Chime in in the comments and let me know what some of your Volume 30 favorites are or if there is anything you want to see in the future.

Finally, I want to give a birthday shout-out to deep-house lover and Ibiza Mayor Lawrence Fayman, who actually introduced me to some of the tracks in this set. Happy Birthday Lawrence; keep rocking out and see you in Ibiza!

From Russia with Club 29

From Russia with Club 29 is very different from my last few sets. The excitement of raging to Dirty South on July 4th inspired me to put out a much more electro heavy, high energy set. This is purely peak hour meant to take your Summer Rager to its party summit.

Volume 29 is all highlight anchor tracks. My favorites at the moment are Benjamin Noise's Bootleg of 3 chart toppers, Eric Prydz's "Every Day" and "The Code" by W&W and Ummet Ozcan. Dirty South's Rise is already an oldy by now, but I still love it and felt the need to include it as an homage to my favorite Serbian-Aussie.

Rage Responsibly and Happy July 4th!

From Russia with Club 27

From Russia with Club 27 is another progressive lounge sets. You'll find strong tracks from Gui Boratto, John Dahlback, and Nicolas Jaar; all three have been my favorite producers at one point or another this year (Gui's on top at the moment). Yet, I'd say the most interesting track is Ame's eerily haunting remix of Ry & Frank Wiedemann's "Howling". Something about the high tones and dissonant vocals just makes me shudder, in a good way. What do you think, listeners?

I've been getting some requests to pump up the energy/funk after all these loungey sets. I've heard your calls and will do my best in Volume 28.

Enough talking. Iggy N Scratchy Presents: From Russia with Club 27 (LQ)
